Intentional Distortion
While the usual objective is to correct perspective problems with T/S lenses,
they can also be used to add intentional distortion. For those types of shots,
it’s best to shoot handheld. There are various techniques that can be
used. It’s possible, for example, to make a building look taller when
shooting up at it by shifting the lens upward (Photo #4). Angles can be accentuated
(Photo #5), and lines elongated. It’s also possible to change the spatial
relationship between foreground and background objects without changing shooting
position.

Newer T/S lenses like the Canon used here will couple with the SLR’s
exposure system. T/S lenses do not support automatic focusing. Each frame has
to be focused manually. With the Canon lens there is a focus confirmation indicator
to help facilitate the process.

Some professional photo supply houses have T/S lenses for rent so that you
can experiment a bit before making a purchase. These lenses tend to be somewhat
more unwieldy than standard lenses, but that can be a plus; they make you slow
down and think about your photography.
