Samsung 5 Megapixel Camera Phone

By Ron Eggers

October 21, 2004 — Samsung is marketing the world's first camera phone that is capable of delivering 5 megapixel resolution digital images. The SCH-S250 camera phone, which will be introduced this month in Korea, also includes the first QVGA display in a mobile phone that supports true (16.7 million) color.

The new phone includes a text-to-speech function, which lets the phone speak to-do lists and incoming text messages. The built-in 5-megapixel camera, which was designed in cooperation with Asahi Pentax, has a high-quality CCD sensor, a 1/1000 of a second shutter speed and QVGA video recording. The phone has a special "stretch" design that protects the LCD display and digital camera lens when they're not in use.

The new camera phone has 92 MB of built-in memory that can store up to 100 minutes of high-quality video. It also has an RS-MMC memory card slot that provides additional storage media. An MP3 player and TV output round out its features.
