The Contax U4R has a host of other useful capabilities, including manual ISO equivalents from 50–400, the provision for setting sharpness in five levels and chroma in three levels, and a white balance system that features fully automatic operation as well as Sunlight, Overcast, Incandescent, Fluorescent, and Preset modes.

The camera can also capture VGA movies with audio at 30 fps in the AVI format up to the maximum capacity of the memory card. As with continuous shooting of still images, a high-speed SD card is necessary to take full advantage of the maximum performance in the Movie mode.

Priced at $449.99, the U4R costs as much as some 6- or 7-megapixel digicams, but—as we’ve said before—there’s more to image quality than pixel count. If you appreciate fine design, superb build quality, and performance to match, the U4R is definitely worth considering. For more information, go to www.tocad.com.
