New Pro Digital SLR from
Canon
Canon has announced the EOS-1D Mark II, a high-speed, professional digital SLR
that’s ideal for portrait, wedding and sports photographers. The Mark
II offers 8.2 megapixels, a fast DIGIC II imaging engine, and the ability to
capture JPEG images at 8.5 fps in continuous bursts of up to 40 frames, and
RAW images in continuous bursts of up to 20 frames. This camera has the ability
to capture smaller JPEG files simultaneously with large uncompressed RAW files.
Also new is the E-TTL II flash system, designed for use with this camera (the
Mark II is also compatible with all EX-series Speedlites). The Mark II accepts
CF (Type I or II, as well as Microdrives) memory cards and has a second slot
for SD cards, allowing for successive or simultaneous recording on both types

Image Analyzer from DO Labs
The new DxO Analyzer 1.0 is a software-based tool that analyzes five critical
performance characteristics of a digital camera: Distortion, chromatic aberration,
blur, vignetting and noise. This analyzer, which consists of a Windows-based
application and a high-precision test target, allows you to quickly and easily
obtain detailed data on the optical characteristics of digital cameras. DxO
