TIP 5: Create an Action Sequence
Don’t stop with one great shot! A group of images that show the entire sequence can be a fun and interesting way to give your photos extra punch, particularly for action that occurs over several seconds. For the example shown here, I started with three photographs of a wake boarder doing a flip. Using Photoshop (Photoshop Elements, Paintshop Pro, or Digital Image Pro would work just as well. All you really need is a program that supports multiple layers). I started by opening each of the images, then selecting the wake boarder in image #1.

After making the selection (I used Photoshop’s Quick Mask mode), copy the selection and then paste it into image #2. Next, drag the layer to the correct position. Repeat this for image #3. When completed, your sequence shot will look similar to the finished image shown here.

Practice Makes Perfect
Shooting water sports presents some unique challenges. It’s also a great way to hone your skills with the camera and come up with some exciting images. Practice these tips, and more importantly, get out and shoot every chance you get!
