TIP 5: Create an Action Sequence
Don’t stop with one great shot! A group of images that show the entire
sequence can be a fun and interesting way to give your photos extra punch, particularly
for action that occurs over several seconds. For the example shown here, I started
with three photographs of a wake boarder doing a flip. Using Photoshop (Photoshop
Elements, Paintshop Pro, or Digital Image Pro would work just as well. All you
really need is a program that supports multiple layers). I started by opening
each of the images, then selecting the wake boarder in image #1.
After making the selection (I used Photoshop’s Quick Mask mode), copy
the selection and then paste it into image #2. Next, drag the layer to the correct
position. Repeat this for image #3. When completed, your sequence shot will
look similar to the finished image shown here.
Practice Makes Perfect
Shooting water sports presents some unique challenges. It’s also a great
way to hone your skills with the camera and come up with some exciting images.
Practice these tips, and more importantly, get out and shoot every chance you
get!
